WRITERS GUIDELINES
Editorial Submissions
We accept unsolicited manuscripts featuring a particular antique, collectible, artist, or company of interest to collectors, dealers, auction houses and others involved in the antiques & collecting industry. We buy first publication rights only, with pay ranging from $50-$250 (story and illustrative materials), depending on length and quality. A publication contract will be mailed out after the article has been accepted. Payment and four copies of the magazine are provided upon publication.
We consider articles about collectibles made after 1985, but prefer to focus on those made prior to 1985. Query letters via e-mail are appreciated. Please include previously published writing samples, if available. Writers are also encouraged to send in complete articles and images for consideration. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient postage if you would like us to return the submitted materials.
What
are we looking for?
• Length: 1,000-1,600 words. Longer and shorter submissions
are considered.
• Values: Please include current pricing information if possible.
• Photos: Please include 6-10 (or more), high quality photographs
to illustrate your article. High resolution digital images are preferred
(300 DPI+), but we do accept photographs and slides. Leave the cropping
to us! Full-color images are preferred. Photographs and slides will
be returned upon publication.
• Format: Please submit your articles via e-mail, on a floppy
disc, Zip, or CD-ROM. Microsoft Word is preferred. Typed submissions
are accepted as a last resort.
• Event coverage: Normally, we do not buy articles that focus
on auction coverage (pre-or post), or antique shows (pre-or post)
except for our annual August “Show Spectacular,” which
is published in mid-July.
• Style: We follow the basic journalistic style of the Associated
Press Stylebook. Please proofread articles carefully before submitting
them. All stories are subject to editing and rewriting for accuracy,
clarity, conciseness and space considerations.
